Man detained over fake land document

Owner of an internet cafe was detained by Odogaon police on Saturday on charges of preparing fake land documents. Police did not reveal his name.

One Hina Naik of Patanagaon under Odogaon tehsil was residing on a piece of Government land for a long time. Recently, Naik had approached the Odogaon tehsil authorities for a caste and resident certificate.

As required, he produced a land document in support of his identity proof in the office. However, suspecting that the land document was fake, tehsildar Abhinash Rout seized it and ordered for a probe, besides lodging a police complaint.

During inquiry, the tehsildar came to know that one Kailash Naik of Karasingi village took `15,000 from Naik to arrange for an official land document. Kailash had prepared the document at a cyber cafe using the format of an old land patta.

Signature of the tehsildar was also scanned and placed in the fake document. Kailash was subsequently arrested and during interrogation, he revealed the name of the cyber cafe and its owner where the fake document was prepared. Police have detained the cyber cafe owner.
