JSPL, Nabard to develop 2 watersheds

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has joined hands with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development  (Nabard), AFC India Ltd and Village Watershed Committees (VWC)  for development of two micro watersheds in Banarpal block of Angul district.

The programme includes two watershed areas - Tubey and Derjang - covering  villages of Tubey, Maratira, Kulei, Derjang and Madhiamunda having a catchment area of 3450 acre. The objective is to recharge groundwater, prevent soil erosion, improve soil moisture and thereby enhance agriculture productivity.

The MoU was signed in JSPL, Angul’s Plant Site Office by General Manager of Nabard  SM Sahasrabuddhe,  and president of JSPL  Rakesh Kumar on Thursday. The project involves around Rs  250 lakh which will be jointly funded by Nabard and JSPL. The watershed community encompassing 1750 households will be contributing 16 per cent of the labour component and the project is targeted to be completed within three years.
