Self-defence training for 300 girls

The National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Council for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will train 300 girls in self-defence from March 6.

The decision was taken by the NSS officials after the latest spate of crime against women. The 200 female students will come from across the State and stay put at the Kalinga Stadium. They will be given self-defence training at the Utkal Karate School. Their training programme will last for nine days.

NSS will sponsor the complete training programme. Around 10 women NSS officers will accompany the students. The students will also take part in cultural programmes after their training during the day. This is the first time that NSS has undertaken such a programme for its girl students.
