Collectors told to repair tubewells before summer

The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Departments have asked all Collectors to take up preventive maintenance of tubewells on a mission mode ahead of the summer which promises to be gruelling this year.

In a letter, the two Departments have directed that all tubewells must be checked and necessary preventive maintenance is carried out. Regular maintenance during the last two years have resulted in significant reduction of problems thrown up by the tubwells in the rural pockets.

The districts need to take up the work on a mission mode and blocks should purchase the necessary spare parts for the purpuse. The repair has to be recorded and signed by villagers or local representatives. The junior engineers and assistant engineers of Rural Water Supply Scheme have also been directed to conduct surprise inspection. The districts have also been asked to engage four mobile vans in each block to complete the repair work. The Collectors and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency have been asked to monitor the work on weekly basis.
