Fund sought for scribe's treatment

Senior journalists of the State have requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to release funds from the State Treatment Fund for treatment of senior journalist Alay Kumar Mohanty who is seriously ill for the last several months.

Doctors said since both kidneys of Mohanty have been damaged, he has to go for transplantation of kidney. The kidney transplantation will be done at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Mohanty was the Bhubaneswar correspondent of Odia daily Hirakhand published from Sambalpur for a long time. He is also well known for his social work.

Mohanty has been Red Cross Coordinator since 1991 and was awarded by the Governor for his humanitarian service in 2004.

His social work has also been recognised by a number of other organisations and institutions.
