1 teacher for 95 students

The primary school at Dumermunda village in Bangomunda block has just one teacher for 95 students who study from Class I to Class V.

Though the school had two teachers six months back, one of them was suspended. While no measures have been taken to find his replacement, the lone Gana Sikhyak manages the

show. Worse, the Gana Sikhyak is perennially busy with monitoring mid-day meal and other official works and gets no time to teach.

Besides teachers, the school lacks on infrastructure front too. It has no additional room for preparation of meals and the tubewell on the premises, which is the lone drinking water source for the students, is lying defunct for a long time.

According to Right to Education norms, it is mandatory for every school under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan to appoint one teacher for 30 students.

The SSA authorities of the district, however, choose to remain silent on the teacher vacancy in the school.

District Inspector of School, Titlagarh, Shankar Prasad Majhi, said a teacher will be appointed in the school soon.
