Elephant carcass found in Satkosia

Decomposed carcass of an elephant was found at Kiajhar reserve forest under Pampasar range in Satkosia forest division on Sunday.

Sources said the elephant died six days back, but the carcass could not be located as forest staff are on strike. On Sunday, some privately engaged guards saw the carcass and informed forest officials.

Foresters and veterinarians rushed to the spot on Monday morning and buried the carcass after post-mortem. “It appears to be a natural death due to illness. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death,” said DFO, Satkosia, PK Sethi.
