CM reviews growth of pisciculture

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department to draw up a plan to double the fish production in the State.

The Chief Minister, who reviewed the activities of the Department in the Secretariat, asked it to fully utilise the potential in this sector. Out of a potential to produce 4.33 lakh tonne fish from fresh water resources, the production is 2.37 lakh tonne.

Similarly, as against the potential of 67,000 tonne from brackish water sources, the production is 30,000 tonne. Similarly, production from sea water has reached 1.3 lakh tonne.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik and senior officials attended the meeting.
