Bitti's father ready to cooperate with police

Days after the arrest of Bitti Mohanty from Kannur in Kerala, his father and former DGP BB Mohanty on Wednesday broke his silence stating that he would cooperate with police in investigation into the matter.

The former DGP, who had gone incommunicado and had been evading public eye since Bitti’s arrest on March 9, said he was in constant touch with the local Markat Nagar police station and would assist the Kerala police team. “Kerala police have not contacted me till now. If they do so, I will present myself before them,” Mohanty is quoted to have told a local TV channel over phone.

The DGP, however, declined to give his take on the whole issue, maintaining that the matter is sub-judice and under police investigation. “If I do so, I will draw contempt of court proceedings upon myself. l will present my case only in the court,” he said.He refuted that he had expressed doubts if the arrested person was his son. Charging a section of media with resorting to gross sensationalism, he said “We are leading a fearful and tortured life with the media hounding us day and night,” he complained.

However, Mohanty is not new to the controversies surrounding his son as he had earlier been accused of helping Bitti jump parole in 2006 following his conviction for raping a German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan. The DGP had been suspended by the Government in 2007 and reinstated with full benefits in 2009. He had retired last year. He had been all along maintaining that his son could be dead. If he has any role in facilitating the double life of Bitti would be investigated.
