Burglary under cops’ nose

Even as the City Police struggled to make any headway in Saturday’s shooting and attempt to loot incident, burglars struck at a house in Kharavela Nagar, close to the local police station, on Monday and decamped with  cash and gold ornaments.

At least Rs 2 lakh in cash and 25 tola gold ornaments were cleaned up by the burglars who took advantage of absence of the family members.

The complainant, Nihar Ranjan Patnaik, returned home at about 1.30 pm to spot the burglary. The miscreants had ransacked the entire house and went through the iron chests and cabinets.

Patnaik’s house is situated behind Gurudwara and across the road is Kharavela Nagar police Station but that did not deter the burglars from making a successful attempt.

A couple of hours after the incident, bike borne miscreants robbed a businessman near Ram Mandir Square by littering a few currency notes on the road.

Police said Mayank Agarwal was waiting on his Bolero when two youths pointed at currencies lying on the main road.

When Agarwal got down to collect them, the two picked up a bag containing Rs 92,000 and a laptop kept in the vehicle and sped away.
