Motorcycle lifting gang busted

Kingpin of the gang involved in lifting of motorcycle and 10 receivers of the stolen vehicles were nabbed by Sambalpur Police on Thursday.

Kingpin of the gang involved in lifting of motorcycle and 10 receivers of the stolen vehicles were nabbed by Sambalpur Police on Thursday.

Police have also recovered 19 motorcycles that were stolen by the accused from Sambalpur, Rourkela and Manoharpur in neighbouring Jharkhand.

Two accomplices of the kingpin who helped in disposing the vehicles, Ganesh Rohidas of Garpos in Sambalpur and Daman Kashyap of Rourkela, are still at large. While the kingpin has been identified as Asif Khan (32), the others are Gajendra Sohela, Birendra Kalsar, Bablu Kujur, Raju Bick, Deepak Sharma, Prafulla Bhainsa, Kanhei Kesari, Madan Toppo, Jugal Kishore Nikhandia and Amit Raja, all from Bamra block of the district.

Sambalpur SDPO, P K Mohapatra, said Asif was picked up while he was trying to steal a motorcycle from in front of Town High School.

However, on interrogation, he spilled the beans including his modus operandi. Asif committed the crime with support from his wife.
