Beautify city’s foundation plaque, speaker tells government

Speaker Pradip Amat has directed the State Government for the beautification and lighting of the plaque of the capital city's foundation by first week of April.

Giving his ruling in this regard in the house on Friday, the speaker asked the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kalpataru Das and Minister for Information and Public Relations Arun Sahu to take appropriate action in this regard.

Raising the issue during the zero hour, Pratap Chandra Sarangi (Ind) said the plaque that is adjacent to the assembly boundary should be shifted. Supporting Sarangi, Bijay Kumar Mohanty (BJD) said the plaque should be kept in such a place that it is noticed by everybody.

The former prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone of the capital city of Bhubaneswar on April 13, 1948.

Bhagirathi Badjena, Ashok Panda (both BJD) and Congress Chief Whip Prasad Harichandan also supported Sarangi's demand.
