MCL workers stage demo for wage hike

Hundreds of contractual workers engaged in Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) staged dharnas at area offices across the coal company on Monday to press their six-point charter of demands.

The demonstrations were organised under the banner of Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh (BMS). AT  Talcher, the main protest was held at Jaganath area office while at IN valley, the demonstration was organised at Laxmanpur office, according to national secretary of BMS Badal Maharana and BMS leader Srinibash Khuntia.

About 17,000 contractual workers engaged in MCL are peeved over non-payment of wage hike declared by the Union Government. They accused the MCL management of ignoring their case while extending the hike benefits to about  3000 workers engaged as drivers and helpers with transport contractors.
