Rape cases: 42 chargesheets in six months

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said in the Assembly that chargesheets have been filed in 42 of 634 rape cases registered in the State from August, 2012 to January, 2013.

Chief Minister said investigation was pending in 592 rape cases. Police have arrested 531 men and 19 women in connection with these cases, he said.

During the last six months, 790 murder, 255 dacoity, one bank dacoity, 841 robbery, 1,825 burglary and 5,270 theft cases were reported while chargesheets for 31 murder and 10 dacoity cases were filed, added Naveen.

Bhubaneswar urban police district reported cases of nine rape and 26 murder but chargesheets have not been filed for any of these cases. Chargesheets for eight of the nine rape cases are to be filed soon.

Meanwhile, six persons have been arrested in this regard, he said.

 During the last six months, Bhubaneswar urban police district reported 14 dacoity, 41 robbery, 169 burglary and 813 theft cases, he added.
