Biting monkey tranquilised

A monkey which had kept residents of Kalinga Vihar on tenterhooks for last several days by going on a biting spree was finally tranquilised on Saturday.

The simian was captured and taken to Talajodi Reserve Forest under Cuttack Forest Division.

The monkey had bitten at least 50 people in the area in the last seven days.

While people were terrified by its behaviour, some of them even approached Chief Wildlife Warden JD Sharma. On Friday, angry locals resorted to road blockade on National Highway-5.

With the matter getting out of hand, Subrat Patra, Range Officer of Pampasar Forest Range under Satkosia Wildlife Division, was called in for the tranquilisation. Patra and his team zeroed in on the monkey and tranquilised it.

Later, it was released in the Talajodi forests.
