Government plans to provide drinking water to PTGs

The State Government has decided to provide drinking water to villages inhabited by the primitive tribal groups (PTGs).
PTGs like Bonda of Malkangiri and Lanjia Saura of Rayagada and Gajapati districts have already been included in the proposal.
An estimate of total Rs 97 crore has been made for implementation of the scheme.
The State Government is also implementing a programme to bring the PTGs to the mainstream. Odisha has 13 PTGs. They are Birhor, Bando Paraja, Didayi, Dongaria Kondh, Juang, Kharia, Kutia Khond, Lanjia Soura, Lodha, Mankidia, Paudi Bhuyan, Soura and Chuktia Bhunjia.
Five main components of the programme include beneficiary capacity building end empowerment, livelihood enhancement, community infrastructure and strengthening pristine culture and tradition.
The PTGs have a population of 82,417 with 19373 households spread over 20 blocks in 12 districts of the State.
