SAMBALPUR: Shock and anger have gripped Kuchinda town in the district after a number of pornographic videos involving local women became public. While the videos are making rounds, local police have failed to nab the persons involved in the crime.
A group of local people led by secretary of Biju Yuva Janata Dal Sanjit Mohanty met Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh on Thursday and submitted a written complaint along with the video clippings.
The incident came to light after some mobile phone users in the town received the video clippings. While one of the women filmed in the clippings is suspected to be an anganwadi worker, the locals said her face might have been morphed. They demanded that the miscreants trying to tarnish the image of local women should be arrested and severely punished so that nobody would resort to such act in future.
They apprehended that the visuals may find its way to the internet if no action is taken immediately.
Mohanty said while location of one of the videos has been traced to a house in Ward 4, another visual seems to have been filmed in a house at Bauriguda village under Kuchinda police limits. Though several college students have the clippings in their mobile phones, police remain clueless about the whole incident, he added. In his complaint, Mohanty stated that six pornographic videos featuring the local women are in circulation in the town. Only police investigation into the matter can ascertain whether the women were filmed under duress or it was part of a racket operating from the small town.
He apprehended that if timely action is not taken, illiterate tribals of the area would be lured to film such videos.
The SP assured the locals of taking appropriate action against the people involved in the crime after investigation.
