The BJP on Tuesday said that it will support the no-confidence motion served by the Congress against the BJD Government in the Assembly.

The Naveen Patnaik Government has lost confidence of the people and the Assembly after severe indictment by the Lokpal in the Vedanta University land scam, Justice MB Shah Commission in the multi-crore mining scam and the Supreme Court in the chit fund scam.

“We will expose the misdeeds of the Naveen Patnaik Government which is involved in a series of scams and has utterly failed to keep its promises,”  leader of the BJP legislature party, Jayanarayan Mishra told this paper.

In its report on illegal mining in the State, the Shah Commission has recommended the Centre for a CBI probe into the mining scam which runs into excess of ` 60,000 crore.

Since the mining scam surfaced, though the BJP has been demanding for a CBI probe, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been rejecting it saying the State vigilance is competent to probe the illegal mining cases.

However, the Shah commission has strongly endorsed for a CBI probe after realising the limitations of the vigilance department, Mishra said.

The BJP legislature party has also decided to corner the Government on the chit fund scam, irregularities in MGNREGS, farmers’ suicide and deteriorating law and order situation, he said.

Alleging that the farmers affected by the cyclone Phailin and the subsequent floods are not yet compensated for their crop loss, Mishra said the Government is yet to respond to his party’s demand for a white paper on the reconstruction, restoration and rehabilitation measures.

The Congress on Monday served a no-trust notice in the Assembly against the State Government alleging its failure on all fronts.

The no-confidence motion ahead of the February 7 Rajya Sabha election is seen as move by the Congress to keep its flock together.
