BHUBANESWAR: The Utkal University Registrar has denied ‘anti-development’ and ‘anti-student’ allegations levelled against her, a day after the university students raised a hue and cry and demanded her removal.
A group of students had alleged that the Utkal University Registrar, Banani Mohanty, has wrongly withdrawn the official vehicle services of two seniors and delayed the processing of pension of some retired employees. More than 50 students protested outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office demanding removal of the Registrar, else face continued protest. Mohanty, on the other hand, said the allegations are baseless and added that no pension related files are pending with the Registrar’s office. In addition to that, she clarified that the vehicle services of two senior officials were recalled because they had not submitted any official requisition. The main reason behind recalling the services of Government vehicles was to prevent its misuse, Mohanty added.
Utkal University Vice-Chancellor A K Das said the matter will be put before Syndicate meeting, scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
The final decision regarding the students’ demand will be taken by the Syndicate after hearing the points raised by both the sides, Das said. He added that the students should focus on their academics instead of attempting to dictate how the administration should work.
