Chiranjib, Congress Deputy Leader

With two days to go for the Assembly to restart on July 9, Congress on Monday filled up vacant posts of its legislature party by appointing Jagatsinghpur MLA Chiranjib Biswal as deputy leader.

BHUBANESWAR: With two days to go for the Assembly to restart on July 9, Congress on Monday filled up vacant posts of its legislature party by appointing Jagatsinghpur MLA Chiranjib Biswal as deputy leader.

Biswal has been elected twice to the Assembly. He was first elected from Tirtol constituency in 2004. Three-time MLA from Jeypore Taraprasad Bahinipati has been appointed the Congress whip. Bahinipati was elected to the Assembly from Koraput constituency in 2000 and 2009. He shifted to Jeypore constituency in 2009 after Koraput was reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.

Senior tribal MLA of the party Bhujbal Majhi has been appointed secretary of Congress Legislature Party (CLP). Majhi has been elected to the Assembly thrice from Dabugaon constituency in Nabarangpur district. Announcing the office-bearers, president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Jaydev Jena said the appointments have the approval of All India Congress Committee (AICC). Senior Congress leader Narasingha  Mishra was earlier elected Leader of the CLP which now has 16 members in the Assembly.
