CUTTACK: In a shocking incident, a small-time contractor was hacked to death in front of his five-year-old son in Millennium City on Monday morning.
Ganesh Rout was taking his son to school when he was intercepted by the miscreants whose number is stated to be three. They brought out sharp weapons and assaulted him in the presence of the little boy.
Rout, a resident of Shankarpur, died on the spot. The incident occurred near Ahalya Mandap along Link Road under Badambadi police station, a busy area of the City. Police suspect past rivalry could be a reason behind the chilling murder. Rout had criminal antecedents but changed his ways and became a contractor. Trade rivalry is also not ruled out.
Badambadi Police has lodged a case of murder and is investigating into the matter. No one has been arrested as yet.
