Sambalpur Commercial Complex in IDCO Pipeline

SAMBALPUR: Budding entrepreneurs are set to get better business opportunities as Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has proposed to construct a multi-storied office-cum-commercial complex in Sambalpur with an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore and on principle, the land of the Government bus stand has been identified for the project.

Chairman-cum-Managing Director of IDCO Vishal Dev accompanied by Chief General Manager (Civil), IDCO, Ratan Agrawal and officials from OSRTC visited the site recently and reportedly gave their approval for location of the proposed complex. The revenue generated from the complex would be shared by IDCO and OSRTC.

While the tender for a similar project has been floated in Jharsuguda, the detailed report of the Sambalpur building is being prepared.

Revealing it to Express, Sambalpur Collector Balwant Singh said since the bus stand of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and that of City Bus Service would be shifted to the modern bus terminus which is under construction at Ainthapali, the area will be available for the complex.

He said there is some problem with the approach road to the place and if needed, the land will be acquired so that it can have direct access from VSS Marg. The proposed multi-storied building will house both Government and private offices besides commercial establishments and would be the most imposing building in the town.

The Government bus stand is spread over two acres of land and its buildings are in dilapidated condition waiting to collapse.

At present, in absence of sufficient office space inside the town, houses on the outskirts of Sambalpur and residential areas are let out to offices.  While this is helping them to save in terms of rent, it is reflecting on their business prospects.

After the complex is commissioned, most of the offices would shift to the building which will offer all the facilities apart from the advantage of the location which is at the heart of the town.
