KENDRAPARA: One Tapan Kumar Behera (25) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a mentally challenged minor girl in Nuapada village on Monday.
Sources said the girl had gone out of her house to the nearby field when Tapan dragged her and committed the crime. Father of the victim filed an FIR at the police station following which police arrested the accused.
The accused was produced in the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) on Tuesday.
‘Godman’ Nabbed
A self-styled godman was arrested from Kendrapara township on Tuesday on the charge of taking pictures of a girl and later blackmailing her parents. The victim who used to frequent the mutt that the accused had established in Bhagabanpur area under municipality jurisdiction was constantly harassed by the man.
Later the accused had demanded the girl’s parents to pay `2 lakh for not making the pictures public. The self-styled Baba Pramod Dash was arrested.
