BHUBANESWAR: Second phase admission into Plus Two colleges concluded here on Tuesday. About 59,000 seats are lying vacant in 1,400 odd colleges which took part in the admission process.

Around 26,930 students took admission during the second phase admission. Last year 24,482 students had taken admission into the junior colleges during second phase, as per the e-admission statistics updated on the Department of Higher Education (DHE) website. After second phase admission, about 59,400 seats are lying vacant.

DHE Admission in-charge Mihir Das said the admission figures for second selection list needs to be further updated as the colleges take time to upload statistics on the online server. The final second phase admission figures will increase after all the colleges update their data.

Two more rounds of admission for junior colleges are yet to take place. The vacant seats are usually filled up after spot admissions begin and students who qualify the instant examinations also take admission. The vacancy figures will come down, at the end of the admission process, Das said.
