BHEDEN ( BARGARH ): Though more than two months have passed since ten-year-old girl Priyanka Kudei of Kutenpali village under Bheden police limits in the district went missing mysteriously, police are yet to get any clue of whereabouts of the child.

Sources said, the child went missing while she was returning home on a bicycle after attending tuition on July 21. It is the reminiscent of a similar incident on May 12, 2007 at Kumelsingha village where Nishan Behera and Umesh Pradhan were found murdered and dumped in a school classroom. Though after hue and cry, the State Government handed over the case to the Crime Branch, the incident remains unresolved and no headway has been made till date.

Reports said everyday Priyanka used to go on cycle from her home in Kutenpali village to Sri Aurobindo Institute of Integral Education at Bheden to attend tuition. On the fateful day, her tutor asked Priyanka to leave early as her village is located about four kms from Bheden. Two of her classmates claimed that they had seen Priyanka and talked to her at Jandol, located between Bheden and Kutenpali while she was on her way to house. But she did not reach home and there is no trace of her belongings.

What has made the case intriguing is that her bicycle and school bag also remain untraced. Since the road ends at Kutenpali, it is suspected that the girl could have been taken in a vehicle along with the her belongings. Even as Bheden observed bandh in protest against police inaction, the girl remains untraced.

Although the then Additional Superintendent of Police Parul Gupta took interest in the case, the case has been pushed to cold storage after her promotion as SP and transfer. While the police scanned all the water bodies and suspected places, four teams were formed to investigate into the matter. But no clue regarding the child or her whereabouts has come to light.

When contacted, Bargarh SDPO Amarendra Rana said he led a team to Bheden to investigate into the case afresh on Saturday.
