BHUBANESWAR: A 22-year-old man who was arrested by Kharavel Nagar police a few days back managed to escape from police custody while being taken to a court here on Tuesday evening.
The accused P Rama Rao was arrested on charges of theft and wrongful restraint under Section-379 and 341 of the IPC. Sources said Rao is a noted criminal and has been involved in several cases of burglary in the Twin City. He freed himself from the clutches of a constable and fled while being taken to court. Police Commissioner RP Sharma said “an inquiry will be conducted under an Additional DCP-ranked officer and appropriate action will be taken against the police personnel found guilty,” he said.
