Panel on Education

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to constitute standing committees on education at gram panchayat-level to look into school education, health and sanitation under their jurisdiction. To be headed by the Sarpanch, the committee will be empowered to monitor the attendance of teachers. After receiving the attendance report of teachers from the school management committee, the panel will recommend action to be taken against the errant teacher by the Block Development Officer (BDO).

The members of the committee will include Executive Officer of the gram panchayat (GP), headmasters of all schools in the panchayat, one educationist to be nominated by the Block Education Officer (BEO) in consultation with the Sarpanch, one member from educational background or Non-Government Organisation (NGO) or from youth club in the area to be nominated by the BEO, one health worker nominated by medical officer of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and one anganwadi worker.

The panel will facilitate and review implementation of the annual work plans of the schools and provide necessary support. It will also meet at least once in three months in the academic year for coordination with school management committees.

Besides maintenance of records of children, the standing committee will work to ensure admission and attendance of students. It has also been empowered to monitor functioning of the schools including that of the school management committees.
