CP Plans Database on Transgenders

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police will create a centralised database which will maintain all information about members of city-based transgender community. The decision was taken at a meeting at the Commissionerate Police headquarters here on Saturday.

Police Commissioner RP Sharma directed the cops to adopt a sensitive approach while dealing with cases involving transgenders. The database will aid the police to recognise and differentiate between eunuchs who migrate from other States and commit crimes here in the Capital, added Sharma.

Members of the community alleged that they were subjected to harassment on several instances by bullies at odd hours of the day. “There were instances when we were not taken seriously while trying to lodge a complaint at the police station,” said a transgender requesting anonymity.

They demanded that a separate helpdesk dedicated for transgenders be created at police stations here.
