KENDRAPARA: A contractor, Babu Sethi (34) of Silipur village under Marsaghai police limits in the district was shot dead on Saturday night by two unidentified motorcycle borne miscreants at Silipur Chhack on the National Highway 5(A).
“Two unidentified assailants gunned down the contractor while he was returning to his house. Police suspect it to be a case of extortion. Two persons have been detained in this connection and their interrogation is going on,” said Nrusingh Charan Swain, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kendrapara.
After the firing, Sethi was rushed to district government hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The body was handed over to the bereaved family after post-mortem on Sunday. Police have sealed all the roads and conducted raids on several hideouts of the gangsters to nab the killers, said Swain.
On Sunday, around 300 locals blocked the road for three hours at Silipur Chhack demanding immediate arrest of the accused persons. Police rushed to the spot and pacified the locals.
