KENDRAPARA: Forest officials on Saturday evening seized skin, antlers and 20 kgs of venison of a spotted deer from the house of a poacher at Khamarasahi village within Bhitarkanika National Park here. Four other poachers - Rajiv Behera, Ginjan Behera, Kalakar Das and Subala Dalei of the same village - managed to escape.
Acting on a tip-off about the killing of a spotted deer in the mangrove forest within the Park, forest officials raided the house of Rajiv. “We are raiding the hideouts of escape poachers to nab them,” said Forest Range Officer Akshay Kumar Nayak.
Police took two dogs trained by the poachers to kill the deer into custody.
