Suspected Maoists Abduct Supervisors

ANGUL:Two supervisors of a contractor were abducted by suspected Maoists from their camp at Sibida village, 30 km from Pallahara town, on the wee hours of Wednesday. The two are Amarendra Sahu from Angul and Hemanta Swain of Kendrapara.

This is apparently, the first such incident in the district.

Both Amarendra and Hemanta were working for contractor SK Agrawala, who is implementing a road project in the area.

Sources said suspected Maoists raided the camp at around 4 am and took with them the supervisors and a cook Bilash Naik, who also resided at the camp office. When some villagers present at the spot resisted, they were beaten up and locked in a room in the building near the camp. They, however, released the cook before disappearing into the forest nearby.

Angul SP Rajesh Pandit Uttam Rao rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. “It is still to be confirmed if they are Maoists or criminals belonging to some other group. There have been no communication from them yet,” he said.

Contractor Agrawala said he had not received any ransom call ever since he began the road work a year back.
