Youth Shot at in Cuttack, Gambling Rivalry Suspected

CUTTACK: A youth was shot at, allegedly by members of a rival group, at Dewan Bazaar under Lalbag police limits on Thursday forenoon.

The youth, Abdul Wahid alias Bubuli (25), has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital with a bullet injury in his back.

Sources said Wahid was on his way to the local masjid to offer Friday prayer when he was attacked. Two youths of the same locality identified as Wasim and Rahim followed him and allegedly fired three shots from a close range but two bullets missed Wahid.

Even as police investigation is on, the attack  is believed to be in connection with gambling activities in the area. Two groups have allegedly been at each others throat for quite some time and the attack might have been a result of that, police suspect.

Police sources said, all three did not have any fixed profession or work and had anti-social antecedents. As the attackers have been identified, they will be nabbed soon, police said.
