BHUBANESWAR: Police Commissionerate busted a two-wheeler theft racket and arrested five persons from the City on Sunday night.
One firearm, two rounds of ammunition, one SUV and four two-wheelers were seized from them.
They were identified as Khitis Puhan (24) and Arun Mallik (31) of Balasore district, Ranjit Chaudhary (22) and Rakesh Nayak (22) of Kanas in Puri district and Kalia Sethy (23) of Jagatsinghpur.
“Three among the accused are engineering and management students who were involved in petty crimes in the past. Arun Mallik is the gang leader who has 12 cases in his name,” Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said.
Arun and his associates had hired a four-wheeler from Puri asking the driver to drop a patient at Apollo Hospital here. However, on reaching the City, they overpowered the driver and decamped with the vehicle.
Chitaranjan Sahoo, the travel agent who had rented the vehicle to Arun, registered a complaint at Chandaka police station after which the Special Squad under Bhubaneswar urban police district made the arrests.
