Government Nod for Science Course in Balangir College

BALANGIR:The State Government has given its approval for running subjects of Science stream at the Government Women’s College, Balangir from 2015-16 academic session.

The Government issued a letter to the college authorities in this regard recently. The Science stream of the college will have 128 seats. A separate building has already been constructed on the college campus for Science.

Established in 1962, the college was running from a building of Ladies Club here. Later, it was shifted to Panchayat Bhawan. Initially, the college was affiliated to Utkal University till Sambalpur University started functioning in 1967. The college was taken over by the State Government in 1965.

Balangir MLA and Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra said the girl students of the district as well the neighbouring districts will benefit from the Science stream. Principal of the college Sushama Naik said though the State Government has given its nod for running the Science stream, it has not released any fund for teaching materials and payment of faculties. It will be managed by contractual staff for now, she added.
