BHUBANESWAR: Former minister and BJD Rajya Sabha member Sarojini Hembram has demanded installation of CCTV cameras and strengthening of security inside train compartments after cash and some of her belongings were stolen while she was travelling in Lokamanya Tilak Express from Shirdi to Bhubaneswar with her family on June 10. Hembram said she travelled in Lokamanya Tilak Express with her family and reached here on June 11. After reaching here, while unpacking their luggage in their house, she and her husband found locks of their suitcases broken. Though the loss was not much, the incident has raised issues relating to safety and security of passengers inside a train, she said and criticised the Centre for raising the fare without improving passenger amenities.
Hembram said she has written to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Chairman of Railway Board AK Mittal over the issue. She said she will meet the Railway Minister after reaching New Delhi on June 25. She said the issue will also be raised in the Rajya Sabha by her.
The former minister said she is yet to get any response from the Minister on her letter. She has, however, not filed a formal complaint about the incident with police.
