ROURKELA:  In a delayed move, the authorities of the Rourkela Government Hospital started taking steps to prevent further water-logging in the hospital.

Due to heavy rain, many wards in the hospital were water-logged since Saturday, creating an unhygienic condition for the patients. Rain water accumulated on the roof of the indoor block of the hospital and entered different wards. Besides, water seeped through some holes in the wall joints and an incomplete wall of the staircase. As construction of the hospital is flawed, there was no proper drainage of the water.

The hospital administration, though, woke up from its slumber on Monday to plug the holes in the walls and the damaged roof to prevent further percolation of rain water.

Rourkela ADM K Sudershan Chakravorty also visited the hospital on Monday evening and monitored the repair works.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Rourkela Government Hospital B Dash said the situation has improved after the Public Works Department plugged the gaps and also put tarpaulin sheets on the roof of the staircase. He said the indoor block is located on the ground floor and construction of another storey is underway from CSR contribution of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

The water from different wards has been cleared on war-footing.
