BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to fill up large scale vacancies, the State Government on Tuesday decided to constitute a Teachers’ Recruitment Board.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who reviewed the activities of the School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department during the last one year. The vacancies will be filled up during next four years.
S&ME Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said out of 36,000 vacant teacher posts at elementary level, 10,000 have already been filled up. Besides, 10,000 posts at high school level are vacant.
The Chief Minister asked the S&ME Department to submit a report regarding formation of the Board within a month.
A decision was also taken to form a society for construction and running of model schools proposed to be set up in the State. Establishment of model schools was a Centrally sponsored programme which was delinked from Central assistance in 2015-16 Budget by the Centre.
The S&ME Minister said the State Government has decided to set up model schools from its own resources. In the first phase, 111 schools will be set up, he said and added that in the second phase, establishment of 51 schools has been sanctioned.
Mishra said thrust will be on improving the performance of schools and teachers. On the basis of the performance indicators, 100 schools will be awarded every year.
Similarly, 100 teachers will be given Chief Minister’s award every year for their performance.
Besides, 39 upper primary schools have been upgraded to high schools in 39 panchayats which did not have high schools, Mishra said and added that 82 schools have been converted to high schools under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
Infrastructure of 1901 schools will be strengthened in 2014-15 under RMSA, the Minister said and added that funds have been allocated for all round development of 175 high schools in 2015-16.
Chief Secretary GC Pati, Development Commissioner UN Behera and senior officials also attended the meeting.
