BERHAMPUR: As many as 53 women will stage a protest on Wednesday against delay by Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) in providing them appointment on compassionate ground. The widows of employees of the company, who died while working on the plant premises, will stage the agitation along with their children in front of the company office at Matikhalo under Chatrapur police limits.
In a letter to the CMD of the company, they said their husbands met untimely death during service and as per the norms, one of the dependants of the deceased employee should get appointment as per his/her qualification. They alleged that while all other units of the company are following this norm, it is not being implemented in the Matikhalo unit. Eighteen such families are awaiting jobs since 1993.
Copies of the letter were sent to the Chief Minister, Ganjam Collector and Ganjam SP on Tuesday. As their repeated pleas over the demands elicited no response, they decided to stage protest on Wednesday.
