First World Yoga Day Evokes Warm Response

ROURKELA: The celebration of first edition of the International Yoga Day (IYD) gripped Sundargarh district on Sunday with people from all walks of life practising yoga at different places.

Collector Bhupendra Singh Poonia and District Judge BP Dutta along with 765 NCC cadets performed yoga ‘asanas’ at Bhawani Bhawan ground in district headquarters town.

At Uditnagar Government High School in Steel City, Rourkela ADM K Sudershan Chakravorty, SP Anirudh Singh, Government employees and school children participated in the yoga session. 

About 1500 NCC cadets of different schools of Rourkela performed yoga at Sector 18 Ground under the guidance of instructor Ranjan Mohapatra while Chairman of Rourkela Development Authority SP Nayak was present. Similarly, about 200 Railway employees joined the celebration at Bondamunda, while 1000 persons practised yoga under the aegis of Brahma Kumaris Ishwaria Vidyalaya at Rourkela Aerodrome Ground.

BJP workers led by Panposh unit president Dhiren Senapati organised “Yoga Shibira” at Rourkela BJP office.

A host of voluntary organisations, educational institutions and industrial houses including OCL India Ltd, CISF unit of Rourkela Steel Plant and Rourkela unit of Art of Living Foundation organised yoga sessions at different venues of the district to mark the occasion.

Jajpur: Braving rain, more than 200 NCC cadets of Madhupur High School, Hingula Vidyapitha and Panchayat High School observed the International Yoga Day at Kalan in Rasulpur block in the district on Sunday.

Deputy Director of Agriculture, Jajpur Rajib Lochan Das and Col Rajeev Singh of Fourth Odisha NCC Battalion, Cuttack joined the yoga session. Yoga asanas were performed under the guidance of yoga guru Pramod Kumar Mallik.

NCC Chief Officer Maguni Charan Prusty, Second Officer Ranjan Kumar Mishra and Third Officer Pravat Kumar Chand conducted the session.

Mass yoga session was also organised at Jaraka where district BJP Mahila Morcha president Rajashree Dash, Dharmasala BJP leader and former block chairman Ramesh Chandra Parida, Kanhu Charan Dash and Ajit Kumar Jena attended. Yoga guru Bhagaban Kundu conducted the session.

Nayagarh: Around 400 NCC cadets from Daspalla, Odagaon, Sarankul, Itamati and Nayagarh and more than 300 people joined the “Yoga Shibira” organised on the occasion of International Yoga Day at BH School here on Sunday.

They practised yoga ‘asanas’ under the guidance of yoga teacher Kishore Chandra Pani. It was organised by Sanskrit Surakhya Samiti, Nayagarh and NCC Battalion, Puri. District Education Officer Pradosh Kumar Naik, Prof Bhaskar Samal, former minister Surama Padhi and former Kandhamal MP Rudra Madhab Roy attended the event.

Dhenkanal: Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Patanjali Yoga Samiti and NCC wings on Sunday organised yoga sessions at different places in the district to mark the Day.

Chairman of Dhenkanal Municipality Indramani Behera inaugurated the yoga session organised by Brahmakumaris at Gopabandhu Town Hall here. Religious leaders from Muslim, Christian and other religious communities participated. Yoga shibiras were also organised at Indoor stadium and BB High School Ground by Patanjali and NCC cadets respectively.

Jeypore: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram inaugurated a yoga camp organised by Patanjali Yoga Centre here to mark the International Yoga Day.

Addressing a press conference after yoga session, Oram said the State Government has been hijacking the people-centric issues in KBK region and development works in the tribal district were not carried out by the agencies concerned on the plea of Maoist scare.

The BJD led Government in the State has failed to achieve even the minimum target of developmental works in tribal areas, he added. State BJP secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra was present.

Sambalpur: The staff of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) performed yoga at the company headquarters here. Chairman and Managing Director of MCL AN Sahay and Directors PC Panigrahi, AK Tiwari and Chief Vigilance Officer Deepak Srivastava participated in the yoga session.

Similarly, the day was celebrated by Sambalpur Railway Division at Railway Community Hall here. Yoga trainer Pratap Pradhan and Sudhakar Mallick demonstrated yoga ‘asanas’. Divisional Railway Manager, Sambalpur, Ajaya Pratap Singh was present.
