SAMBALPUR: After visiting the sites in Sambalpur district for the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the four-member Central team on Sunday said it would submit its report to the Ministry of Human Resources Development by June 25.
On Sunday, the site selection committee visited Nildungri under Jujumura block which has been shortlisted for permanent campus and Government ITI building at Rasanpur near Maneswar on the outskirts of the city for temporary campus. The team also surveyed the periphery of the site at Nildungri.
Speaking to mediapersons after winding up their two-day visit to the district, Director (Management), Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) Shailendra Kumar said though some inputs are awaited, the report would be submitted by Thursday.
“If the recommendation is accepted, efforts would be made to start admission and classes from current academic session. If the admission begins, it would start with 70 students instead of 140,” said Kumar. He expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of the State Government.
Prof Pawan Kumar Singh from IIM Indore, which is the mentor institute of the proposed IIM in Odisha, said they would evaluate the sites before submitting the report.
On Saturday, the committee comprising two other members - Principal Secretary, Department of Technical Education and Training, Odisha Asit Tripathy and Chief Engineer, Central Public Works Department Umesh Mishra - visited the proposed sites for the permanent campus at Basantpur near Goshala under Dhankauda block and Brahmanipali under Rengali block.
This apart, the team had also visited some locations, which have been identified by the State Government as probable temporary campus.
Those include Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT) at Burla, Silicon Institute of Technology at Sason and Government Polytechnic at Rengali. They inspected the facilities available at the proposed sites of the permanent and temporary locations of the premier management institute of the country.
