BHUBANESWAR: The International Yoga Day (IYD) was celebrated with enthusiasm and vigour by the students in schools across Capital on Sunday. Hundreds of students and teachers made a beeline to their respective schools by early morning to celebrate the occasion.
Students and faculty members of KIIT and KISS International Schools observed the day in a grand manner on the campus. More than 1000 staff and students of both the schools assembled at 6.45 am at KIIT ground to practise yoga.

“Yoga is a journey into one’s inner self and it frees our body and mind from ailments,” said Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT.
More than 500 NCC cadets of Sainik School joined the event organised at Vivekanand auditorium on the school premises. The session was supervised by Sudhanshu Adhikari, State Coordinator of Patnajali Yogapeetha here.
Sainik School Principal Captain Kanchan Mukherjee said yoga will be made compulsory in the school curriculum soon.
The event was coordinated by NCC Commanding Officer Lt Colonel SN Meheta and Senior NCC Officer HS Das.
Around 200 students and 30 staff of Mother’s Public School practised yoga for an hour with trained professionals imparting training on several asanas. The 60-minute programme comprised exercises and pranayam (breathing techniques).
Students and staff of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur performed yogic asanas to commemorate the day.
Participants also performed pranayams and recited Vedic prayers.
Regional Officer, CBSE Bhubaneswar, L Meena was the chief guest. He urged students to augment universal brotherhood and national integration through yoga.
Principal-cum-Regional Director of CSPUR DAV, KC Satapathy emphasised on the importance of including yoga in school curriculum on priority.
Students of Unit-VIII DAV participated in the yoga session arranged for students and teachers from 6.30 to 7.45 am.
