CUTTACK: Police nabbed a youth who had adopted a novel way of stealing two-wheelers from people after developing close relationship with them.
The youth, Manoranjan Das (34) of Basta in Balasore district, was caught by police on the basis of a complaint filed by a girl with whom he was in a relationship. Police not only recovered the scooter in question but also two other vehicles stolen in similar style.
Police sources said Das had somehow developed an affair with the girl from Kanheipur under Chauliaganj police limits here. She was working with a private spice manufacturing company at Jagatpur. Through his girlfriend, he had come close to her cousin too. Using the closeness, he borrowed the scooter of her cousin and did not return.
The girl tried to contact him but after failing to do so, a complained was lodged. Das was traced at Singla in Balasore district and was found to have stolen two other scooters from families in that district after developing relationship with them, Chauliaganj IIC RR Mohapatra said.
