PARADIP:Vehicular traffic on Cuttack-Paradip State Highway was paralysed for eight hours on Tuesday as irate locals staged a road block in protest against the death of an engineer in an accident.
The engineer, Banshidhar Behera (40), working for a Delhi-based company, was about to cross the road at Taladanda market with his two sons when a speeding SUV hit them. Behera died on the spot.
His sons were rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to SCB MCH at Cuttack in critical condition. The agitators were pacified and the blockade was withdrawn after administrative officials and police assured them of stepping up road safety measures in the area which witnessed six deaths in past two weeks.
