6 Injured in Accident

BARGARH:At least six persons including four members of a family were critically injured after a truck hit a car and a bicyclist on National Highway-6 on the outskirts of Bargarh town on Sunday.

The injured were rushed to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR at Burla after their condition deteriorated.

The passengers of the car were on their way to Harishankar in Balangir district when they met with the accident near Haldipali Chowk on the NH. They have been identified as Deputy Director Agriculture, Sambalpur, Ashok Mohanty, his wife Leelarani, his brother Ajay Kumar, Ajay’s wife Kalpana, driver of the car Subodh Bajrapunji and the bicyclist Manas Naik, a resident of Bargaon village. The condition of Leelarani is stated to be serious. The truck driver fled after the accident.

Soon after, irate locals blocked the NH protesting frequent accidents at the spot and police inaction to contain the situation. However, the blockade was removed after police assured the protestors of action.
