Two Killed in 3rd Mishap in Four Days

BHUBANESWAR:Two persons were killed when a truck ran over them after knocking down their motorcycle at Panchagaon in Sunderpada here on Wednesday.

According to sources, a businessman of the Capital Girish Mehta and his accountant Niranjan Pradhan alias Munna were going to Jatni on a motorcycle.

While they were trying to cross a junction, a truck carrying laterite rocks from Jatni lost control and hit them.

Mehta, who was riding pillion, died on the spot and Munna succumbed on his way to the hospital. Later, the truck rammed into the market area injuring three others and overturned.

Locals rushed the injured to Capital Hospital. Two among them, who sustained multiple injuries, have been shifted to a private hospital and their condition is stated to be critical.

Mehta, who belonged Lakhisarai in Bihar, was into marble and tiles business in the city. Munna was a native of Berhampur. Lingaraj Police has registered a case of negligent driving causing death and arrested the driver of the truck.

It may be noted that this is the third accident in the city in the last four days. Two days back, an SUV driver was killed and three passengers were injured after their vehicle was hit by a sand-laden truck at Power House Square.

A day later, a 22-year-old school teacher was killed after a police van ran over him near Sai Temple at Tankapani road.
