Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bhubaneswar After Passenger Falls Ill

BHUBANESWAR:  An IndiGo flight, en route to Kolkata from Hyderabad, had to divert and make emergency landing at Bhubaneswar on Monday morning after a passenger fell ill.

Airline sources said the passenger, Sashi Menon, complained of chest pain after which cabin crew alerted the captain of the flight.

The captain requested the Bhubaneswar ATC for priority landing at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPAI). The crew provided oxygen support and made an in-flight announcement declaring medical emergency on-board.

As soon as the plane landed at BPIA, the airline staff escorted Menon to Capital Hospital. He was found to have low blood pressure. The passenger was discharged after an ECG and necessary medication. He was stable and was taken back to the airport terminal. His family has been informed about the incident, sources said.

The non-scheduled flight with 158 passengers on board took off for Kolkata after a 30-minute halt at BPIA.
