Odisha Offers Help to Rain-hit TN

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday offered full support to Tamil Nadu for combating the severe flood which has gripped the southern State following relentless showers. Naveen called up his TN counterpart Jayalalitha and discussed about the flood situation which has wreaked havoc in the State, particularly Chennai. Odisha is ready to extend all possible help for the flood affected, he said. Since the Odisha Government has considerable expertise in disaster management, Naveen has directed Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra to ready five units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) with necessary equipment. As soon as the Ministry of Home Affairs' go ahead is received, the ODRAF teams will be flown to Chennai, the Government said. When cyclonic storm Hud Hud struck coastal Andhra Pradesh last year, the Odisha Government had dispatched ODRAF teams to help in relief and rehabilitation operations. Meanwhile, three units of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which has its Battalion at Mundali near Cuttack, flew out to Chennai on an IAF aircraft to assist in rescue and relief operations. Another 10 teams have been kept in readiness to join the rest, if need arises.
