20 Suffer from Jaundice in Mahanga

SALEPUR: More than 20 persons, including women and children, of Paikarapur village under Mahanga block are suffering from jaundice.

The condition of three children Dhaneswar Jena (8), Madhusmita Rout (5) and Laxmi Priya Barik (12) is serious, said Dr Nrupendra Kumar Satpathy, Medical Officer-in-Charge, Mahanga CHC.

Consumption of unsafe drinking water is being cited as the reason behind the outbreak of the disease. The villagers depend on two open wells and a tube-well for potable water.

A medical team has been sent  to the village. They collected water samples from the water sources for lab tests. A temporary medical camp has been set up in the village to treat the patients.
