BHUBANESWAR: Unidentified miscreants broke into a couple’s house in Kaplieswar Vihar and decamped with several lakhs of rupees worth gold jewellery and cash later on Saturday.

Soumya Ranjan Samantray and his wife had gone to their ancestral home in Jagatsinghpur when the incident took place.

Police said the Samantaray couple visits their ancestral home every weekend. This Saturday was no different.

Apparently, the burglars were aware of their schedule and took the opportunity to break in. The neighbours spotted empty jewellery cases outside their home and informed the couple. Jewelleries worth several lakhs of rupees and Rs 10,000 in cash were found stolen. Mancheswar police seized the materials and began investigation.

In a separate incident, burglars took Rs 35,000 in cash and a bike from a house in New Forest Park area on Saturday night.
