SALEPUR: Cuttack Sadar police recovered the body of sweetmeat seller from a drain along NH-16 near Phulnakhara Square in Cuttack district on Monday. Another person was found injured and unconscious in the drain.
The deceased was identified as Baishnab Sahoo alias Babula (38) of Kunditarapatana under Balianta police limits. The injured, Padmalabh Sahoo alias Dangua (42) of Mahantypatana was admitted to SCBMCH at Cuttack.
Babula and Dangua, who were running separate sweet stalls at Pahala, were returning from a marriage at Mahantypatana on Sunday night on a motorcycle when the incident occurred. They were in an inebriated condition and might have lost balance, said ACP, Cuttack Sadar, Nimain Charan Sethy.
Ragpickers found the body and informed locals who called in the police on Monday. Police also seized the two-wheeler. Meanwhile, Premananda Sahoo, elder brother of Babula, filed an FIR at Cuttack Sadar police station alleging murder. An unnatural death case has been registered, said Sethy.
